Hull and East Yorkshire Combined Authority – policy-making sessions

A two-day ‘policy sprint’ was held on the 21st and 22nd of July to explore plans for the region in terms of skills, prosperity and employment. Attendees including officers working for the Combined Authority (HEYCA), people from the private and VCSE sectors, and representatives from different departments of Hull City Council and East Riding of Yorkshire Council including public health and planning.

Hull and East Yorkshire Mayor Luke Campbell opened the workshop and shared his vision for the region.

The sessions explored the timescales for the region to submit its Prosperity Strategy (consultation draft required by September), Work and Skills Strategy (developed in stages between September and March) and a Local Growth Plan which must be adopted by March 2026.

The region’s infrastructure charities including Forum CIO, Hull CVS, HEY Smile, Community Vision CIO, Active Humber and Humber and Wolds Rural Action are working together to ensure the VCSE sector has a voice in the development of these plans and strategies. We recognise the vital role that the voluntary and community sector plays, not just in terms of direct delivery on work and skills agendas, but in reducing work-related barriers like health inequalities and digital exclusion.
