Peer Support Volunteering Opportunity – Humber

The Liaison and Diversion (L & D) Service Humber is a six-year NHS England funded project which involves collaboration between Leeds Community Healthcare NHS Trust and Community Links, a mental health charity which is part of the Inspire North Group based in Leeds.

The Community Service accepts referrals from NHS colleagues based in Police Custody suites who have carried out screenings of those who have come into contact with the Criminal Justice System to identify vulnerabilities and support needs.

Typically, this might include mental health problems, substance misuse, accommodation needs, finance and benefits.

The Support Time Recovery Worker (STRW) assist service users by offering ‘one to one’ and ‘person centred approaches’ to support, refer and signpost to existing specialist assets throughout Hull and the East Riding of Yorkshire. North and North East Lincolnshire. This twelve-week intervention is intended to facilitate support needs identified on the initial screening and care plan by the STRW assisted by Peer Support Volunteers (with lived experience of the criminal justice system) and Volunteers.

The L & D Service are currently seeking Peer Supporters with lived experience and Volunteers to form part of the Community Service to assist the STRW through engaging with service users in a ‘hand holding’ and supportive capacity across the Humber region. The role of the volunteer will be to provide ‘face to face’ and other support including accompanying the service user to appointments and events in their geographical area. Drop-in locations are also being identified which will enable service users to meet up with the STRW, Peer Supporter and volunteers.

Main Duties will Include:

1. To attend the Hull Office (Clough Road for North Bank Volunteers – West Marsh Community Centre for South Bank Volunteers) Times and Days to be agreed.
2. To accompany paid staff to attend service user homes, attend appointments or support groups.
3. Conduct Welfare Calls with the Service User (Mobile phone provided).

Both locations are strategically placed for ease of access across the cities and the wider geographical regions.
