Alzheimer’s Society – Hull

Sent on behalf of Alzheimer’s Society:

It gives me great pleasure to share with you the new Programme of Groups and Activities that are been launched in Hull.  We are really excited to share these with you, and are looking forward to welcoming people to our groups. For more information about attendance or how to refer people, please reach out to Julie or Clare, our Hull Dementia Advisers, who can provide further details.  We would be most grateful if you could share with your colleagues, service users and networks.

Younger Onset Dementia Social Group.

In addition to the attached, we are also thrilled to share with you a new group that is aimed specifically at people of working age who have a dementia diagnosis.  The promotional material for this group is currently been designed, as soon as it is ready, I will share.

Once a month, we will be hosting a social group for people of working age, who have a dementia diagnosis.  The members of the group, select meaningful activities which enable them to remain engaged in their communities, retain and develop relationships and social connectedness.  The content, location and timings of activities are designed to be beneficial and accessible for younger people with dementia.  Meaningful activities could be bowling, theatre, museums or a visit to sporting event. Our dementia adviser will be there to provide support and a safe space for them to meet other people who are also living with younger onset dementia.  Should their partner, family or support network wish to meet other people who support a person with younger onset dementia, there is an opportunity to meet up for a cuppa and a chat whilst their loved one enjoys some “me” time.

Please note – we do ask that people contact us first prior to attending, as we have to carry out a safe and wellbeing assessment.

Dementia Support and Advice

I would also like to take this opportunity, to share with you the most recent update of the Alzheimer’s Society Hull Welcome Guide, which provides further detail of the specialist dementia support we offer in Hull and how people can connect to our Dementia Advisers.  It is important to know, that we are there for anyone affected by dementia, providing vital support to help people manage their condition at any stage throughout their journey, helping them to navigate through some of the most frightening times in their lives, which includes supporting carers and people post-loss.

Please do get in touch should you have any questions, or would like for us to meet with you and your colleagues to provide more information on what we do and how we can support people affected by dementia.

Kindest Regards

Nikki
