Hull Community Recovery Fund – engagement

Hull City Council was one of 20 local authorities areas to receive funding from the Ministry of Communities, Housing and Local Government (MHCLG) in response to the violent disorder that took place across late summer 2024.

Approximately £200k has been allocated to voluntary and community projects that will help bring communities together and improve cohesion. The total amount is still being finalised, and funding will be administered through Forum and Hull CVS. The aims of the funding include:

  • Resourcing Community Leaders who are increasingly being asked to give their time to representation activities linked to cohesion
  • Bringing communities together to improve cohesion and reduce divisions
  • Improving the capability of places to tackle the extremist narratives and ideologies that are driving our communities apart
  • Improving local partnership approaches to supporting community resilience
  • Improving the capability of places to respond to periods of community tensions

The funding should align with themes in Hull’s Community Plan, including tackling root causes of crime, increasing community resilience, building confidence in community safety and listening to people who are marginalised.

Timescales

Funding timescales have not been finalised, but we are anticipating the following:

  • 3rd to 19th February – engagement and consultation with the VCSE
  • Launch of fund – approx. 21st February, with a month for applications
  • End of March – decision-making panel

What we want from you

We now need feedback from the VCSE sector before the fund is launched to consider:

  • Views on how to maximise the community inclusion focus of the funding – bringing communities together
  • Format of applications – for example whether creative methods like videos would be welcomed
  • How to manage the awards process to Community Leaders
  • Whether to specifically invite innovative bids or ‘tried and tested’ approaches

We would also like to hear from groups that would be interested in joining the decision-making panel, including the viability of involving young people and community members directly in this.

We will be contacting groups directly but if you would like to contribute to the discussion, please contact Pippa Robson, Deputy Chief Officer, Forum [email protected] 07791040433
