Public health and prevention

By June 10, 2019National News

The Institute for Public Policy Research (IPPR) has published a report on a new approach to public health and prevention in the UK.

Findings include:

  • poor health often has underlying and preventable social causes, including adverse experiences in childhood, and
  • health visitors and parental support programmes have proven effective in preventing ill health.

Recommendations include:

  • the government should mandate six health visits for every new-born child;
  • every child who lives in a household in receipt of universal credit should receive a free school meal.
