Disability Confident Business Event
November 16, 2018 @ 9:30 am - 11:30 am
Invitation from Melanie Onn MP for Great Grimsby
In my role as a constituency Member of Parliament, I am proud to support initiatives which encourage employers to engage with the benefits of employing disabled people and I am delighted, therefore, to be hosting a Disability Confident event on Friday 16 November at the Innovation Centre in Grimsby.
Disabled people make up almost twenty percent of the working age population in the UK, yet they still face a number of barriers in finding sustainable and supporting employment opportunities.
Disability Confident – a scheme that has been developed by disabled people, employers and disability organisations – is designed to support and encourage employers to think differently about disability and to take positive steps to improve how they attract, recruit and retain disabled employees. The scheme challenges misconceptions about disability in employment and aims to increase understanding and awareness of disabilities, whilst supporting employers to make the most of the skills, qualities, talents and insights that disabled people can bring to the workforce.
I hope you are able to join me to hear more about how your business can become Disability Confident. You will also have the opportunity to hear from businesses who have signed up to the scheme who will explain the support that is available, the steps they have taken to help disabled people enter and progress at work, and the benefits their business has gained as a result. There will also be a number of job seekers attending on the day, showcasing their skills and abilities and looking for opportunities for employment including apprenticeships and work experience.
To register, please visit Disability Confident Business Event. If you have any questions or queries about any aspect of the day, please contact Lorraine Alexander on 01472 622244.
