Reading Rooms is a reading for conversation programme, run by Hull Libraries, where trained facilitators read and share short stories and poetry exploring memory, emotion and thought in groups or individually.

The stories and poetry can be moving, funny, sad and uplifting and conversations are unique to each session, frequently taking unexpected directions. There is no requirement for participants to read aloud.

A Reading Room is an opportunity to relax, be read to (something many of us haven’t experienced since we were children) and have a good chat.

Reading Room groups will be taking place in various venues from October 2018.

Alternatively, if you are caring for someone, Reading Rooms can come to you at home.

To find out more and to book Reading Room sessions please contact Clare or Jessica on 01482 613602 or email clare.bennett@hcandl.co.uk.

Individuals are matched with a Volunteer Mentor, to support and enable individuals to independently engage with and work towards goals to gain independence in their community. The support offered is extra support on top of the services working in Hull to combat existing homelessness. Hull & East Yorkshire Mind was founded in 1976 and has over 40 years experience in providing mental health services to people in Hull and East Yorkshire.

The organisation is a registered charity, and a company limited by guarantee. It is affiliated to National Mind in London through an affiliation agreement, but receives no income in support of its operations from National Mind. Although an independent, autonomous organisation, Hull & East Yorkshire Mind is one of 140 Local Mind Associations that have agreed to support the mission and values of National Mind and strive to reflect them in its governing documents and its work.

Our vision is that we won’t give up until everyone experiencing a mental health problem gets both support and respect

Our mission is to intervene early to improve wellbeing and provide advice and support to empower anyone experiencing a mental health problem. We campaign locally with our partners to improve services and reduce stigma and discrimination.
