Carers make a vital, hidden contribution to the health and wellbeing of the nation, yet they can often feel socially isolated, lacking support and a sense of community.
Many carers report that caring has taken a toll on their own health. Carers UK’s State of Caring 2018, which surveyed more than 7,000 carers, showed that 72% of carers have experienced mental ill health as a result of caring and 61% have experienced physical ill health.
There are more than one million carers aged over 65 in the UK. It is estimated that carers aged over 70 provide more than 60 hours of care a week and that almost one in ten carers are aged over 85.
In this funding programme the Bupa UK Foundation is looking to support practical, community focused projects designed to help older carers to manage and improve their own health and wellbeing
